Introduction:

Independence Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is where the delegates met for the Constitutional Convention throughout the summer of 1787.

This lesson was developed for 7th, 11th, and 12th grade Social Studies classroom, and for a graduate course regarding technology in education. The project is designed to meet the New York State Standards and Core Curricula.

As students complete the WebQuest, they will learn about the Constitutional Convention of 1787, and the issues the delegates struggled with as they wrote the document. In the process, students will learn the importance of compromise in politics and government as they write their draft constitutions. In addition, this activity provides students with an opportunity to develop public speaking skills and persuasive speech. If used in a 7th grade classroom, this activity can be extended into an English class, where the student's English teacher can assist in the writing, grammar, and structure of the Constitution, as well as help students to develop their persuasive argument favoring their constitutions, and prepare for their presentations.

This lesson is designed to take place over two days.
